A Brief Introduction to School of Biosystems Engineering and Food Science

The School of Biosystems Engineering and Food Science, based on the two 1st-grade disciplines, consists of two departments, six research institutes. It also manages the Asia Pacific Clinical Nutrition Society Centre of Nutrition and Food Safety, Post-harvest Agricultural Products Technology Research Centre, Food Science Technology Research Center of Zhejiang Province.

Since the establishment in 1999, the school has vigorously developed its disciplines and gone up with a leap in quality, with 10 doctorate-granting disciplines (2nd-grade) and 12 master degree granting disciplines (2nd-grade) now from 3 and 4 separately at the early stage of the school. In the nation-wide 1st-grade discipline evaluation report published in the year of 2004, Agricultural Engineering and Food Science and Engineering rank the second and the fourth in the list of the same disciplines in the nation.

In the school there are 17 professors and 38 associate professors, including qualified personnel singled out for the participation in the nation's, Ministry of Education's, and Zhejiang Provincial talents programs. Besides, 16 famous scholars and experts home and abroad are invited as guest professor or part-time professor in the school. The school undertakes various research programs including national programs, international co-operative programs, and provincial important bid or key programs. In 2004, the average amount of fund and papers published in SCI & EI journals per capita mount to the top of the same disciplines in the nation.

At present the school has established excellent co-operative relations with near 20 famous institutes of higher learning and scientific research institutes in the United States, Japan, Germany, Australia, Canada, etc. and shows the high frequency of international academic exchange activities with brisk atmosphere.
