On May 28th, Dr. Vijaya G.S. Raghavan, President of the Academy of Science of the Royal Society of Canada and Professor of McGill University, was invited to visit our College and delivered an excellent academic report themed "the Development of Agricultural Engineering Discipline in McGill University of Canada" for faculty and students.

During 1993-2003, Raghavan served as the Chair of Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering in McGill. He engaged in research on post-harvest technologies related to drying and storage and committed to promoting the development of national and international agricultural and biological engineering fields. To date, the total amount of Raghavan’s research grants and contracts has reached $26,235,327. He has supervised 127 graduate students to completion of their degrees. And 136 post doctorate fellows, visiting scientists and research associates have conducted their work under his guidance. Raghavan has authored or coauthored more than 550 Refereed Journal papers and 48 book chapters. Throughout his remarkable career, Raghavan has received numerous awards including two honorary doctorates. He has been inducted as a Fellow into several professional societies, including the Royal Society of Canada, the Engineering Institute of Canada, Canadian Society of Agriculture Engineers, the Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers, the Indian Institution of Engineers, the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

In the report, Dr. Raghavan gave an introduction to the development history of the agricultural engineering discipline at McGill University. He gave a detailed introduction focusing on the history of agricultural engineering disciplines, faculty, undergraduate majors, master's and doctoral admissions programs at McGill University. Raghavan connects with China frequently. Since 1990, Raghavan has visited, lectured and cooperated all over China for nearly 20 times. Meanwhile he welcomed our students to go to McGill University for further study and communication. The atmosphere of the report was active, and the report ended in the Q&A session between the students of our college and Professor Raghavan.

The 2-hour report was rich and wonderful. All the faculty and students attended gained a lot.
