Dr. K.C. Ting delivers a report about Academic success intelligence in the global environment for BEF faculty and students

On 30th August 2022, Dr. K.C. Ting, the professor and Head Emeritus of Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering, UIUC, Adjunct Professor of Zhejiang University (ZJU)-UIUC Institutegave a report entitled “Academic success intelligence in the global environment”.

Nowadays, most people live in a challenging life. How can our thinking and behavior help us achieve academic success? In this report, Dr. K.C. Ting gave BEF faculty and students some advices. At the beginning of the report, Dr. K.C. Ting introduced his academic and professional journey and encouraged students to empower knowledge and wisdom for life. Dr. K.C. also said that a critical and creative thinking technique was critical to system approach. A holistic approach emphasized the performance as a whole based on the understanding of all components and/or constituent systems in the system and the interrelationships among the components and/or constituent systems.


Dr. K.C. Ting emphasized that thinking systematically and paying attention to details were beneficial to high-quality leadership. Except for that, it’s also important to make changes and get things done when you were the leading role. In the report, Dr. K.C. Ting advised students to plan for the future, not only completeing dgrees but also developing intellectual capacity.

Near the end of the report, Dr. K.C. Ting responded the questions and shared his suggestions with students.

Dr. Ting (PhD-Illinois & Professional Engineer-New Jersey) served as a Vice Deanof International Campus, ZJU during 2017-2020. He has a B.S. from NationalTaiwan University, an M.S. from University of Kentucky, and a Ph.D. from UIUC, allin agricultural engineering. He has been conducting teaching, research, administration/leadership, and globalengagement activities in agricultural and biological engineering and beyond. His research work emphasizes systematic human supervised cyber-physical integration of engineering and agriculture for the advancement of complex agricultural production and processing systems. He has been leading research teams to develop and implement the pioneering Automation-Culture-Environment oriented Systems (ACESys) analysis methodology, Concurrent Science, Engineering, and Technology (ConSEnT) decision support computational platform, and Intelligent Driven and Empowered Agricultural Systems (IDEAS) framework to make food and agriculture systems work well, better, together, smarter, and wiser.
